Physical Activity and PhysioFitt
The Physio FITT programme aims to support people to become, and stay, physically active. WHO have put out Guidelines for Physical Activity, click the link to read these.
What is Physio FITT?
Physio FITT is a targeted activity programme for people who have become inactive and would benefit from support to safely begin exercising. This is generally because of barriers to activity, such as:
- Physical health conditions e.g., asthma, heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, injury.
- Mental health conditions e.g., anxiety, depression, cognitive impairment.
- Age-related e.g., falls risk.
- Personal, social, or environmental e.g. isolation, lack of motivation or time.
What to Expect:
Initial assessment and goal setting:
The physiotherapist will perform an initial assessment to discuss your goals, assess your baseline function and activity and to identify any barriers to increasing physical activity. This will include discussion with your doctor.
An activity/exercise plan will be developed jointly with you at the initial assessment.
Review
Typically, the physiotherapist will review you 3 or 4 times over 3 to 6 months to reassess your progress and update your plan, in person or via telehealth depending on how much support and advice you require.
Once you are safely exercising, the physiotherapist will help you transition to other community programmes such as Green Prescription or community exercise classes if you choose.
